The small isle of Cameo in the Bay of Laganas is picturesque. It is remarkable for the pines which grow there in the small port of Agios Sostis.
The small island is privately owned and is located at the left part of the Gulf of Laganas.
Until 1633, Cameo was attached to the central nucleus of Zakynthos but following violent earthquakes, it became completely detached.
Nowadays, during the summer period, you can reach the by means of a wooden bridge and there are two bars on the island, one with its own private beach.
Undoubtedly, the most picturesque place in Laganas Bay.
Marathonissi is a small private island located in the Bay of Laganas and it belongs to the National Marine Park. It has an area of 280 acres and is covered with dense vegetation. The island has been uninhabited since the Second World War and is without construction of any sort.
At the northern end of the island lies the only 150-meter long sandy beach, which is a sea turtle nesting area. Guardians of the National Marine Park permanently stay there and protect the island, turtle and eggs. The nature there is exotic, the sand is pristine and the waters transparent. Here, there is a 20-30m long coastal zone without any plant species. There is also a smaller pebble beach ending in a magical and mysterious cave.
