Departure from your accommodation will take place around 7 am, going to the port of Zakynthos. At 8, the ferry boat leaves for the port of Killini on the neighboring Peloponnese. Your journey will take 1 hour and a half.
From Killini you will take a bus for approximately 1 hour to the archaeological site, which is a 10-minute walk from the very small and picturesque village of Olympia.
The archaeological site is listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The area of Olympia is located in a green valley of the Peloponnese, and was inhabited from prehistoric times. The worship of Zeus was already established in the tenth century BC. The sanctuary of Altea housed one of the highest masterpieces of the ancient world. There are also traces of all sports facilities for the celebration of the Olympic Games, which took place every four years from 776 BC. Today, the Flame of the Olympic Torch originates from this site i before each Olympics Games and announces the opening of the Olympic Games.
While exploring you may discover the Temple of Zeus (5th century BC) that housed the gold and ivory statue of Zeus of Pheidias, carved around 435 BC. This was one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Temple of Hera (5th century BC), the stadium, the palaestra, the gym, etc. Our tour guide will take you through the archaeological site and then you can visit one of the most beautiful museums in Greece where you can admire, among other things, statues, weapons and tools found at the archaeological site. After discovering the ancient treasures, you will feel the essence of real ancient Greece! Then you can enjoy a traditional Greek meal in the village of Olympia.
You will depart from Olympia at 3.45 pm for the port of Killini and the boat to Zakynthos departs at 5.00 pm Return to your accommodation will be around 7.30 pm
